This is a question for all Law graduates completed during last few years.

Many people say that it is very difficult to get a job after completing a Law degree if it is not from UNSW or USYD.
I would like to hear from Law graduates about their experience in finding jobs (specially from unemployed Law graduates and their opinion).

I went to USyd, and I was fortunate enough to get a grad job.

I think there's a correlation/causation fallacy with the UNSW/USyd law students getting jobs. To put it into perspective, think of it like the HSC. People at Ruse typically do better than people from your local public high school. Does that mean if you go to your local public high school, you'll do shit? No. Does that mean that if you go to Ruse, you'll do well? No. It comes down to the individual student. It just so happens that most of the high achieving students pick Ruse, and hence Ruse does well.

Same with USyd and UNSW. Most of the high achieving law students in NSW will go to USyd and UNSW, and hence those are the students that typically dominate top tier jobs. Does that mean if you go to UTS and UWS and MQ, you won't get a top tier job? Absolutely not. There are plenty of non Go8 students in top tier jobs. It depends on you as a student.

Apply yourself. Do well in law school. Be all-rounded. Get work experience. You will be fine.

Prospects? Pretty shit, make sure you've got a marketable second degree.

I'm ex-Ruse. The most successful lawyer from my year had one of the lowest UAI's in our grade (low 90's) and didn't go to a Go8 uni. Go figure.
