Hi all,

Does anyone go this subject? Language Description?

If so, the tutorial questions for last week weren't posted on the website, so I was wondering if anyone knew them?

Emailed my tutor and the lecturer, but no response as of yet.

If you could help, thanks a heap.

I did this unit last year, but I remember that they would hand out the tutorial notes in the lecture. You could also get copies from the linguistics undergraduate office.

oh, and bty, don't expect to get a reply from jennifer soon - she's unorganised when it comes to emailing students :)
Unorganized altogether, and probably my worst teacher last year =P. I had her for Ling109 Tutorial and Ling110 Convener -_-.

PS: I would recommend also stopping by the Linguistics Department to get an extra copy...

Sorry, but I have to point out two linguistics students saying 'unorganised'. :p

...
im-M----, eg immature, immaterial, immoral, etc,
un-N----, eg unnatural, unnoticeable, etc,
dis-O---, eg disorganised, disorientated, (rarely in-O---, eg inoffensive, de-O---, eg deodorise, etc). Never un-O---; although it sounds like it in some un-A--- words like unattested, etc.
...

[/Nazi] :p

yeah, it is quite a good unit but it can get a bit technical when it gets to the grammar and phonetic topics. Anyway, Jennifer is taking leave this year, so you probably don't have to worry about her. Anyway, she was my tutor for ling109, ling110 and ling248 and she wasn' t that bad :p

I'm enrolled in this unit for next sem but I think I'm going to do a history unit or something instead :p...I'm not really enjoying Ling 109 at the moment (apart from semiotics which was really easy)

"Disorganized is strong and disapproving; unorganized is mild and may be neutral. Compare:

Her desk and papers seemed unorganized (but she could find anything she needed in a moment).

Her desk and papers were disorganized (and she could never lay her hands on what she needed). "

http://www.askoxford.com/asktheexperts/faq/usage/disorganized

In other words, the negative polarity for 'disorganized' is just stronger than 'unorganized'

And if you still think the word doesn't exist... http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/unorganized :santa:
