We had about 6 people drop IPT after the preliminary (Year 11).
Currently, there is (and always has been) a single IPT class, with about 20 students.

My questions exactly!
DSS and AMS, I haven't done, but I have a fair idea about what is involved etc. (but I couldn't answer them 'properly').

You learn a bit in the core (Information Systems and Databases, but that is only a rough outline, including DSS, Expert Systems, Office Automation Systems, TPS, Communication Systems, etc).

well i realised i hadnt learnt anything about them, but i just thought i hadnt been paying attention in class or something, so i made it all up.
i also did all 4 options, the short answers, the multiple choice and still had around 10 mins left at the end.
i wasnt the only person who did it though, in my class of 13 i think there was about 5 of us that did it.

In my class, we had 1 student who didn't attempt all the options, but he did the WRONG option (he's not very bright, so he chose his own option and made stuff up, instead of doing the ones we've covered).

The teacher laughed and cracked jokes at him :D
(in a good way ;))

I think the lowest assessment mark in my class was about 10-15%

That's because you've got some guys who submit crappy assessments without any real effort, those who dont care about the half yearlies, trials etc, because "they have enough units" --and instead of dropping IPT, they keep it and muck around/stir the pot and "bludge".

10-15 over 4-5 assessable tasks (half yearlies, trials, etc) is pretty shocking.

Our average is less than 50, so it's disappointing.

Not meaning to be mean... but is there any point taking a course you're going to do that badly in? I mean, i doubt you'd even get your HSC with something that low...

Some people are like that, if you're going to bludge/do nothing all year, then you might as well drop it and 'bludge/do nothing' elsewhere.

If IPT is already a bludge, you might as well stick to it if you're that desperate to play with computers, make jokes in class, and so on.

I think you would still receive a HSC mark (assessment mark of 14 + exam mark, over 2, which goes to about 10-15% as your final HSC mark, unless the person decides to wake up and study, so that'll be about 20-30%, not a pass, but it's the person's choice).

I think everybody should get 50% and above, even though my class's average/mean is about 46% or so. :(

hmm...my class average was around 60%....(CSSA trials)...

teacher hopes to get that average too in the HSC...and i kinda agree some ppl that slack off and dun do any work...but we have like 37 ppl doing the course, none is that slack...

but in standard...like we have around 60 ppl...like only 20 ppl are making some effort...so it depresses me when the HSC marks are gonna be compared to the assessment mark for english :(

when they slack off then they disrupt the class and don't let you work

I have about 6 'slackers' in my class, they disrupt the class, I *try* to get some work done, but some of the jokes are pretty funny, so I do get a good laugh out of IPT sometimes (daily? :p).

But I would prefer it if everybody would sit down, be quiet, get the work done, ask "productive" questions, and so on :)

Don't worry, my class's average was 48% or something like that as well. I hate IPT, its going to drag my UAI down so badly

Not if you perform extremely well in comparison to the state?

That's my understanding.
Say you get 99% (hypothetical, it could happen :))
And the state average was 36%

Wouldn't you still benefit? If you have 1st ranking in IPT and you came 1st in the state (for example)?

I have no idea, but I figure that if you do well in the HSC, at school (assessments) and you maintain 1st ranking, then you're only helping others by pulling the average up, and you're going to be 3-4 standard deviations above the average, if not more!

:)
