Are there any secrets to work out Max Min problems? Or do you just have to know all of the equations, areas, perimetres, circumferences etc.

Steps in solving Problems on Maxima and Minima
1. Introduce the variables.
2. Write down an equation connecting them.
3. Obtain an expression for Q, the quantity you want to maximise or minimise.
4. Express Q in terms of one variable using the equation from step 2.
5. Differentiate and apply tests.

... of course all the formulae for areas, perimeters and circumferences will be handy.
