I am confused about what the aim of the experiment was, was it:
- attempting to measure the velocity of Earth through aether?
- to prove the existence of aether?
- to measure the velocity of light through the aether in different directions?

???????

+1. And by doing that it was trying to prove the existence of the aether, only they got the null result and ended up discrediting the aether model.
