Hey, I’m kind of new around here but I wanted to get your ideas on a scenario that I am to believe actually happened a number of years ago, also a variation of this scenario may appear in an up-coming med interview and I want to know how to best approach this scenario.

Anyway, apparently a number of years ago there was a story of a person who was in a car crash, luckily for him (don’t whether it was a male or female, so we’ll just stick with ‘him’) there was a hospital very close by. So the paramedics take him there and it turns out there are no doctors available at that time. Meanwhile, this person is in a very critical condition, but, there is a drug. A drug that will ensure he is alive until the doctors arrive. However, this drug can only be administered by a doctor (even though the nurses know how to use the drug, the process etc.) Here in lies the dilemma. Should the nurse give the patient the drug until the doctor arrives? Even though he/she knows fully well that he/she is not qualified to administer the drug, but also knowing this may save his life or should he/she stay within the rules and regulations and let the person die?

Anyway, just wanted to know your thoughts and stuff oh, and it turns out the nurses did nothing in the ‘real-life’ scenario, having been said to say ‘it was not my/our responsibility as nurses nor did we have the qualifications to administer the drug,’ so they got off with no charges etc.

p.s if you find any spelling errors, grammar mistakes, please~ forgive me =___= I feel really sick for some reason and I can’t seem to think properly…@_o;;

edit: a little off-topic, coming to this section of the 'boredofstudies' forums always, i repeat always, makes me feel very, very stupid and dumb....so many smart people >.>;;
