I don't know what it means.... fitzpatrick doesnt explain correctly..

It could help if you can give me a full worked solution for exercise 4(f) Question 2 (a) and (b).

that is;

Prove that;

(a) HE is parallel to DB
(b) GF is parallel to DB

EDIT 1: E, F, G and H are the midpoints of the sides AB, BC, CD and DA respectively

$\noindent (a) Consider triangles $AEH$ and $ABD$. Angle $A$ is common and $AE:AB = AH:AD =\frac{1}{2}$, as $E$ and $H$ are midpoints. So $\triangle AEH$ is similar to $\triangle ABD $ (pair of sides in equal ratio and included angle is equal). So $\angle AEH = \angle ABD$ (corresponding angles in similar triangles are equal). So $HE \parallel BD $ (corresponding angles $AEH$ and $ABD$ are equal).$

$\noindent (b) The proof is similar to above. Just use a different pair of triangles (triangles $CGF$ and $CDB$).$
