Overseas Med Schools (1 Viewer)

I don't mean Oxford [non-EU quota of 7 arrrrgh] or unis like that, but what options are available in terms of doing medicine overseas in universities of reasonable repute? Is there any site which gives a list of respectable med schools overseas- I tried looking through the royal society and such but I found nothing.

Pointdexter: anywhere in Western Europe [don't like Asia (not racism, I'm Asian)] thats reputable and not so difficult to get in so much that I'd have a chance considering that I'd only want to go if I didn't get into UNSW.
How difficult was it for you to relocate?

i duuno.. my cousin is in cambridge med.. check their websites.. for equivalences in UAI to 'A'level its on net somewhere.. i cant remember but 98.7 is 3 A's

wat languages do u speak or would u lik to speak..?
umm in the EU ud prolly consider UK first.. cos it has the closest relation to Aust and u speak english.. i assume..

it cost about $4000 i think to relocate.. with computer and all home things..
but remember it may cost heaps if u study overseas

In UK, you will have to pay overseas student fees unless you hav lived there for a minimum of 3 yrs....Take that into account. BTW: Estel, If you didnt make UNSW, wouldnt it be smarter to just do it post grad?

i read an article in the age about how some students didnt get into any medical school in australia so they just went international and studied their degrees in lithuania....now sitting their postgraduate exams for their respective specialisations.

wrx: I've heard how nasty postgrad entry is [the long stretches of time and sense of insecurity arrgh] and I figure if I don't make it into UNSW might as well make the best of it and gain some experience in a different state/country.

Point: wouldn't mind learning Italian but considering UNSW needs Adv. English for study here I'm kind of limited to english speaking places. Thanks for links, will check through.

Estel remember that the final day for applications to the UK is mid-October. And they dont start till the next September. Fair bit different than Australia's final date of changes of Janurary something and classes start late Feb.

Secondly, if you don't get into UNSW why would you go overseas? Every Med school in Australia is just as good as every other one, though the methods of instruction (and hence the areas in which graduates are strong and weak) differ between them. Interstate study is an EXCELLENT option for medical training in Australia - the biggest problem (after qualification for entry of course) is usually finding the school that's best suited to you.

yer lexis right.. my degree is still recognised in NSW and i can register there without another exam.. UNSW is very popular in NSW.. but otherwise most ppl interstate would choose to go to melb.. cos its better in reputation..

lots of ppl in JCU UWA ADel and MELB get into UNSW ..its just that their uni is closer.. realise all the unis teach differently.. lik a textbook used in 1st yr at Adel is used in 4th yr for other unis and vice versa..

personally Adel aims to be practical.. its very hands-on.. lik we are up to the stage of diagnosis and treatment.. others like Melb teach significant amounts of biology..which in adel im supposed to pick up along the way.. so wateva u work best at

but in UQ if u go grad entry u can get a MBBS PhD in 6 yrs.. its impractical.. but looks good

Overseas isn't really an option after looking at the costs involved... far beyond my ability to pay.
But I suppose now the challenge is not so much which university but how.

Umm..I searched for med school all over the world...and I am not Aussies as well

Several options:
- US, good med school but consider cost and 2 years of pre-med or graduate entry
- England, aren't we spose to do the college, obtaining A-level 1st?
- Spore, highly competitive, only 1 uni offer med
- China, a uni with India-relation, in English, but u hav to be able to speak Chinese for clinical yr., relatively cheaper
- Germany, language limit of course
- Canada, graduate entry, strict quota
- Indonesia, the public uni for quality, but it's diff to get in, some uni with Aussie-relation, dunno whether degree is applicable elsewhere

This just struck me as interesting, since the two statements do not necessarily affect one another. Being asian and being anti-asian are not mutually exclusive conditions. There's nothing that says only White Anglo-Saxon Protestants are racist.

NUS- 99.95 actualli i dun kno.. in fact NUS doesnt even take many singaporeans..
Manchester - 98.6(?) equivalent to 3 A's at 'A' level

also have interviews and UMAT like thingy.. from memory.. dun know wat its called tho

look i posted up a site with all links to overseas med schools so have a look there, all countries and med schools have different admissions procedures so it'd be best for you to do the research relating to the respective universities you are interested in

NUS- 99.95 actualli i dun kno.. in fact NUS doesnt even take many singaporeans..

99.95 is gd enuf for Oxbridge! I dun think NUS requires such a high score...btw, i'm singaporean...they take in 230 locals every yr.
