I know they can be bought from voda, telstra, optus and all the rest of the carriers. Don't these tend to be fixed prices without much of a price drop?

They can be bought from ebay - but I don't know if I trust the sellers with so much money in case something goes wrong.

Where else do you buy your phones?

Usually buy from Singapore but in Aus... there are shops around Chinatown (eg. Market City and outside as well) which change prices dynamically with market conditions.

Yes, I've bought stuff greater than $100
It's completely safe, as long as they have decent feedback

what do you say is decent feedback? 97%?
where do these people get brand new electrical goods to sell?

i'm monitoring the prices and they jump in the last couple of hours. is there any way i can see auctions that have ended so i can see how much the products went for?

I bought my phone from ebay
I paid about 560 when it was worth roughly 800
But it is a slightly different model, just cause of the different regions..
Worth it though :)

while the auction is still running, click on 'watch item' towards the top of the product page. that way you can monitor it in 'my ebay' even after it ends.

i've bought close to 50 items now and havent had a problem, jus check that feedback - if they have hundreds or thousands they should be safe. i think my biggest purchase was a sony hd3

I bought my mobile from ebay.. Motorola V620. I made sure that I only bid on people with heaps of feedback and companies where you could do a direct bank deposit (as I did not have a credit card at the time).
The only problem I had was a memory stick I bought which would not work, but they told me to send it back to them and they sent me a replacement, which works fine.

If you dont want to buy of the net, you can get outright mobiles from -Dicksmith and crazy johns... but its much more worth it to buy prepaid-they only lock after you ring up and register your details, so if you stick your sim in as soon as you get it, and dont use the sim they give you then it you can use your original sim.
omg are u serious? that sounds logical enough but it never occured to me! doh! i got stuck with virgin mobile for like 9 months because it was locked like that! *feels stupid*

are you serious they don't lock? I would be scared to try it though, incase it was locked and I wasted my money

by logic, it shoudlnt really lock til you register but i guess i am a little paranoid at some crazy idea that the phone is locked before it is even packaged. but that really seems unlikely cos the phone is in pieces before you assemble it

What would everyone consider a good score for ebay sellers?
98+% if they have less than 1000 feedback,
95+% if they have more than 1000 feedback.

Also depends on other factors:
e.g. If they offer refunds, if they offer paypal - i personally hate paypal, but for more expensive things you want to know that you'll get a refund if it doesn't work out.

I tend to distrust anyone who has private feedback... i always think: why??
