Hey,

I was wondering what rankings I need to get a UAI of 99+. I go to Baulkham Hills High School, and last year, 5 people got 100, 20 got over 99.5, and the median UAI across the cohort lay between 97 and 98. I do the following subjects, and the number next to them indicates approximately how many people do the subject at my school, out of a grade of 180 people

2u english - 179
3u english - 100
2u maths - 165
3u maths - 140
Modern History - 60
Economics - 70
History Ext - 40

Thankyou!

Information such as this is -extremely- hard to be accurate, especially when aiming for a UAI 99+

Remember that your UAI has nothing to do with how your school went in the previous year. And we don't know the acedemic ability of your school this year either.

But considering that they are similar, you'd probably want to aim top 20 in my opinion.

Seeing that 20 got over 99.5, i guess ud be aiming for that. If you're year is smarter then you can might get it with a little lower rank

One other thing, does ranking count towards UAI, seing that UAC uses raw marks not hsc marks. Doesnt ranking only affect moderated mark, which only affects HSC mark, not raw marks.

Your moderated mark *is* your raw mark. Moderation is just a process to ensure statistical integrity.

But two people getting the same raw mark in a subject do not necessarily get the same moderated mark

lol, is that one other person doing ESL?
I have no idea. On the year 12 assessment board they always have things such as 'standard english half yearly', so I've always assumed she does standard english by correspondance.

for your subjects...

def top 5 for all subjects
I seriously doubt all top 5, if the candidature is just as smart as the previous years. Baulkham hills, is one of the top schools.

You're thinking of raw marks as in marks in exams for school... they're not comparable between schools, and after moderation, you would call them raw.

Thankyou so much :)

When did you actually get your ranks? Is it true that we don't get them until the day we sign out of school?

You should be able to request them at any time. There is nothing prohibiting the school from providing them to you.

we actually got them some time after the hsc... thats when they were put on the internet anyway... we were told we could request them from the last day of school onwards... but by that stage i didnt care...
also, i think 03's yr 12 was considered to be smarter than the 04ers, so keep that in mind too... however our uais ranged from 100 to 31.

Some schools, like mine, like to keep rankings secret to make it a surprise at graduation. But luckily theres normally 30 or so students in my classes so its pretty easy to work out rankings.
