On the report card, are these rankings based off our school assessment marks, our trials and our non-HSC-related mark (basically everything), or are they only indicative of our school-based mark?

that depends which school, but for most schools, ranks are based on your raw assessment marks.
i remember you could check what ranks your teachers sent in to BOS after the completion of HSC exams.
