Me and a classmate came 1st and 2nd in our IPT HSC class (accelerated) by a very small margin (96/95)

Now we get our exam results, and i got 96, my friend claimed he got 74. I got an HSC mark of 96, my friend got 84.

Did my friend's abysmal performance in the exam adversely affect my mark, because he was a higher rank than me?

EDIT: ok, it appears my friend was just messing with me. But out of interest, what would happen in this scenario?

In that scenario you would overleap him but you's would both be scaled upwards anyway, so in any case you's would be close but it also depends on you're other scores.
