oh oh. here comes the argument haha

yeh there are definatly different genres... i think its funny how people fight about the difference between rap and hip hop...
ill pose a question
is snoop dogg's new song with jt rap? im just interested in the reply

my favourite type of rap/hip hop would be group hip hop
for example bands like jurrassic 5, early BEP and The Pharcyde and Fumanchu

I think rap/hip hop/r n b overlaps each other, so sometimes you get artists that sound both hiphopy and rnbish, rap/hip hop.

I'm not sure about the genres of rap though.

Edit: do you mean the song Signs? I think it's mostly hiphop with a tinge of pop.

rap and R&B can overlap.....hip hop i use to describe the essence of hip hop....eg common, talib kweli, mos def, eric b and rakim, old jay-z, old nas, biggie etc.....it can be called rap yeah but alot of ppl use hip hop and rap to differentiate between the mainstream stuff u hear on radio etc....and the 'real' hip hop music that mostly stays underground/barely scrapes to charts, or rarely does really well in the charts.

aussie rap rarely births good music, sometimes yes, mostly no....to me anyway....1000 techniques = shit...j wess = worse than shit.....scribe = just as bad as j wess. Koolism, bliss n eso, u got some good aussie rap......watch channel v's 'aussie friggin' hip hop' and ull see why i hate aussie rap.

hip hop is the culture - which rapping is a part of.

hip hop:

graffiti
break dancing
rapping
djing
and there are other elements

what you hear on the radio e.g. Ja Rule with Ashanti = RnB integrated with rap as Ja Rule is still rapping

another e.g. : Nelly ft Tim McGraw - OVer and Over = Rnb integrated with country as no one is rapping.

Does rap come under R n B or hip hop? I've got no idea. Maybe it's a funky version of soul music? Now I'm just making stupid guesses.

and how many time do i have to tell you i know....im referring to the music....sure rapping was the MC'ing aspect of hip hop culture but it has turned into a 'sellout' ....so ppl use hip hop to describe the music which captures the essence of what rap meant when it wasn't so watered down.

to summarise, im talking bout the music dude.

who the hell said that "rap" is the sellout aspect of the music? thats crap and you know it! youd figure that because they are still in essence 'rapping' that the music would still be classified and categorised as 'rap', and 'hiphop' [from musical perspective]

mainstream, radio hiphop is not known as 'rap' - it's known as mainstream hip hop.
