Here's a few examples..

Christianity
*Marriage structures the lives of the couple. Prior to marriage only had responsibility for themselves, now shared responsibility for each other & children
*Marriage is a means of identification with the particular denomination & that community of believers. E.g. Catholic marriage --> Children baptised Catholic -->children receive reconciliation & Eucharist --> children attend a Catholic school
*Marriage is seen as a way of holiness because it is a scared and lifelong union of a man and a women

Judaism
*Marriage structures the lives of the couple and assigns clear roles to each partner. The wife has responsibility for the home --> kosher, bring up & teach the children. Husband --> provide and protect the family
*Divorce --> husband can marry immediately, wife after 90 days
