Tossing up between math computing & nonlinear systems and molecular biology for intermediate units. I've only got 6 more credit points to choose for pre-enrolment, it boils down to these two, and I don't know anyone who has completed either who can offer some insight.

Has anyone completed either of these subjects? Good/bad?

Thanks!

MBLG2X71 is pretty great. The MMB School is the best I've encountered in terms of teachers. The course is interesting, especially if you're as interested in the topic as I am. The pracs are long but pretty fun. The unit's well run - there are plenty of study resources available. That's all you can ask for really.

Also, the advanced course (if you're eligible) is virtually identical to the normal course, except you do your pracs with other advanced students. You get (Adv) on your transcript for free and you avoid the risk of being paired with an idiot. Win-win.

I have to agree with you on the MMB lecturers. Dale is a godsend, and Gareth was top quality. If I did MBLG next year I'd definitely do the advanced course. Funnily enough I did get paired up with a total slacker and ended up having to do all the lab reports myself. No fun.

Thanks for your input!

Mblg2x71 is worth your while. You will need molecular bio skills, especially if you are going on to do further life sciences like biochem and microbiology. The staff and demonstrators are very helpful, and you will get to socialise and make friends in your long prac classes =P

Thanks! Also, did any of you take BCHM2X71 - protein biochemistry?

Yes.

Do it. It gives you a grounding in biochemistry that you can use to piss in an HD in second semester when loads of noobs from other faculties come in to do Human Biochemistry (which is also excellent).

It it has BCHM at the start, it's a good course.
