How do you find out what your school is ranked?
or does it go by the previous hsc?

The rankings are compiled after the HSC for that year. If you want an indication as to how well your school usually does, you should compare several years, as the ranks can fluctuate. There's a table for it somewhere on thif forum, but I'm not sure where it is.
