Yes, I did it in 2007 at Hunter St TAFE, specialising in film and got a Cert IV in it.
I really enjoyed the course, there will be some deadly boring assignments on safety, OHS, budgeting etc but it really is a worthwhile course on learning filmmaking and the screen industry itself. Being competency based, the teachers can teach it however they want, granted that all the competencies are tested for.
In my class we learnt about filming for 6 months, and for the second 6 months we made our own short film (believe me, you need the time for your first film) using class time to help with any problems we were having and extra filmmaking tips.
There was a lot of groupwork involved, there were no problems that I was aware of in our class, basically everyone was happy to be there and work hard, and there are some intimidatingly skilled people there... I happened to be the youngest (18) and seemed to have the least skill as well, and I had no troubles with the film making process.
