go to a public library and look up books on short stories
or google.com and type in short stories

yeah they give you the restrictions for the short story but not a lot of info about the medium.. eg: conventions and stuff like that... apparantly research of the medium of the mw is important... or so i keep reading

Just buy some cheap how to write short story books then quote and photocopy them into your journal.

You also have to read short stories or a similar theme or structure to yours as part of the research.
