Hi guys, so the main round offers came out today and i got an offer to UTS combined law ; however i am wondering whether i should change my preferences around for the second round to get into commerce at UNSW. As for commerce at UNSW, the main reason for me would be so i could try to transfer into combined law there or if i want to transfer to another course etc ( the internal transfer system seemed to entice me)

please give me some advice on how the whole second round offer thing should work.

And should i apply for commerce or combine it with media/pr etc?

Accept the offer at UTS and change your preferences so that UNSW Commerce is now your top preference.

Then, wait for the second round to see the offers. Highly unlikely you will have a chance because for the late rounds, given Commerce does not seem to have vacancies after the main rounds, a 99.95 might be required to get in. Check if you are eligible for HSC Plus bonus points. That might help you get in for the later rounds.
The bold was changed to cater for your purposes :)

Accept UTS offer (just in case) and apply again for UNSW commerce - that is if you want to do law at UNSW as external transfer can be VERY hard to get in. trust me.

I got accepted to law at unsw through internal and it was unbelievably easy. you just need to get an average distinction in your first year and BAM you're in. no joke. (i.e. WAM of 79 can definitely get you in)

There were definitely vacancies in 2014. I got some later round offers in 2014 from UNSW for Commerce and Combined Commerce (didn't accept them in the end).

I previously thought so as well but now, I'd argue otherwise.

@OP - check out this post: http://community.boredofstudies.org/330/transfers/332999/roll-call-all-those-who-trying-transfer-into-usyd-unsw-law-2015-a-2.html#post6883159 (A 95-96 NRSL rank usually corresponds to a high credit GPA or 'just' distinction GPA or 96 ATAR)

Here are some good threads/references in regards to internal versus external transfers into USYD/UNSW Combined Law.

That being said, if you really want to do combined law (Commerce/Law in your case) - I'd say go for UTS to be safe (you can always do an external transfer and as shown by the 2015 roll call thread, it's not impossible). However, if you're fine with just doing Commerce, by all means, go for the internal transfer option.
