I got to rank 110~ school and i smashed my chemistry trial and came first with 96% but my overall rank is 25/32. the second highest was 91%
my other task 1,2 etc and assignment i just barely passed because i just couldnt focus on chem as majority of my other subjects were all clumped together

should i worry about my rank??? how much will it drag me down?

You will be alright. Probably means you'll get like a 95ish in the final exam for chem.

What's done is done, you can't really do anything about it now. Smash your HSC just like you smashed your trials, and you should be fine :)

so if i get the highest mark externally it goes to the person who's rank 1?
my internal marks added up is roughly ~68

say if i get 96 externally does that mean my overall mark will be 82?

Yeah, rank 1 gets the cohort's highest external mark for their internal.

And for your last question, no, your internal mark that you currently have (~68) will get moderated first before contributing to your overall HSC mark for that subject.

Yes 82 if your cohort's exam average = internal average.

If exam average is higher, your 68 gets moderated up and your overall (HSC) mark will be >82
Vice versa if exam average is lower than internal average.

As others have said just try to get the best external mark possible. Your assessment mark probably won't be amazing but hope for the best.
