Does anyone know whether uts software engineering is better than software engineering @ unsw? My friend says so because the course @ uts is more comprehensive, and because the school has more industrial connections

... but i'm a bit skeptical. Does anyone think the same?

im going to be doing software engineering at UTS... it is meant to be better partly because you do 2 paid six month internships working in the workforce which gives you experience

This is often given as a reason to choose uts over unsw for engineering. However, UNSW engineering still requires work experience however it doesnt add a whole year onto our degree, and remember you will get paid very little for it. In general, unsw is regarded as better for computing degrees than uts (eg unsw usually dominates other Australian unis in competitions such as robot soccer)

Cut-offs mean nothing. 2-3 yrs ago, unsw was also 97+, uts probably close by. Uai is determined by demand not course difficulty. As the computer industry can basically taken a nosedive in interest (and thus demand), uai's have followed suit.

For example, take electrical engineering for example, its uai is in the 70-80's for most uni's. That doesn't mean its an easy course, its just not too many people take elec eng, so its uai has stabilised around that figure. (Yeah, Gman if you find me in this thread, I think this example is based on one your posts somewhere)

Oh, btw, UNSW SENG > UTS SENG
