Hey, I'm having a bit of a dilemma at the moment
I love composition, and also jazz performance, and I also want to do business. Combining these in tertiary study is becoming difficult, however at UNSW I could specialise in composition, and theres plenty of opportunities for jazz/perf and collaborations, and I could do a double degree in business. Of course, UNSW is second to the con in performance and composition areas, however I am wondering if the music program would be enough (in reference to the contacts the school provides, opportunities, other students skill levels etc) to give me a strong grounding for a music career if I decided to do so? People always seem to say that if i get into the con, thats where I should go.
Composition at the con would be awesome, however I would have to do business after and Im not sure if I want to do purely composition as a career or for 4 years in uni. I'm largely looking for a place where I can get really good at comp and meet people who will play regular jazz gigs/compositions, there doesnt seem to be a lot of opportunities to collaborate in the comp course at the con, whereas UNSW focuses on collaborating.
Can anyone draw a comparison between UNSW and the Con for music or has experience at UNSW and knows what the players are like?
