When were/are we meant to get the text books for Semester 1?

I presume it's easiest to get it from bookshop.unsw.edu.au?

Thanks

Is there a recommended time to get it? Like before O-Week or something?

Are the discounted prices shown on the site?

I think from bookshop.unsw.edu.au

You click Textlist and enter the course code (eg. MATH1131) your doing and it will show you the list of textbooks relevant to the course

For maths it is best to buy it around week 3 / 4 if you need it. Again some courses have lecture notes which are free/cost significant less. I made a mistake in buying books too early and end up accumulating dusts for an entire year.

Yes there is a second hand bookshop. Somewhat limited selection at times though. You'll have much better luck looking at "for sale" posters stuck up on notice boards at places like the Basser steps and outside Matthews.

I sold 4 copies of first year Biology textbook, a physics textbook, and 2 discrete math texts that way.

hehe no sorry...I only did computing subjects last year.

Last year I asked some of my close friends for any texts they wanted to sell and sold them together for better exposure. I sold all 4 copies of the bio text in several days. All the textbooks I sold in the first week and a half of uni ended up at about $360. I converted books to cash :D

1. You won't need all of it.

2. Get some second hand.

Just buy the prescribed ones, don't buy the recommanded ones because you will NEVER have time to read them once you start uni. I am dead serious. Sometimes you don't even have time to read the prescribed ones!

When do you guys usually buy your text books? During the semester or before?
Also most of these text books only last for one semester before it's of no use right? Just doesn't seem worth paying 500 to last a semester.

As we have already said, you wait for the lecturer to say what is needed, so its after the session starts.

Sometimes texts are still relevant after one course. Otherwise that is the reason why there are second hand textbooks for sale.
