are you looking at language techniqes in specific? Which journey is this relating to?
there are a few general techniques from the top of my head. its been a while since i've seen it:
+Intertextuality (it was based on a true story)
+Symbolism with the clothing (Rose was rich, thus she wore more elgant clothing)
+Journey (destination, self discovery and love) discovery and love
