TWO men have allegedly held up the United Service Station at Meadowbrook in Logan City, with a knife - all for a packet of cigarettes.

About 4.10am, the pair threatened the attendant and demanded cigarettes. The worker handed over one packet and the men fled.

One was nabbed by police a short time later near the service station and a police dog tracked the other to a nearby house.
Logan detectives are now questioning both men who could face charges of armed robbery - which carries a maximum penalty of 14 years in jail.

Meanwhile, Gold Coast police are investigating an armed hold up at Benowa Tavern about 2.50am, in which two men threatened the manager with a firearm and an iron bar.

They demanded cash and car keys, and the manager complied.
In their rush to escape, the men dropped the iron bar.
Police are now looking for a white 1990 Nissan Pulsar with Queensland registration 419-BFA.

The first man was described as caucasian, 178cm tall with a slim build and between 25 and 30 years of age.
He was wearing a long sleeved black top, dark tracksuit pants, black beanie and white runners.

The second man appeared to be of Aboriginal appearance, 187cm tall with a slim build and had similar clothes.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000.
