so... what if I decided today that I was aiming for a UAI of 99.9?
Ive never had direction before...
so Ive just been doing what needs to be done and no more than that all year
and I have lots of other interests as well.

My subjects and estimated rankings currently are:

Chemistry (1st or 2nd/8)
Maths (13/28)
English Adv (1st/57)
Engish Ext 1 (1st/4)
English Ext 2 (equal 1st/2)
Biology (1st or 2nd/48)
Business Studies (1st/48)

my trial marks put into SAM came up as UAI 89, but my rankings were high

Am I crazy??

man, my trail marks said i was gettin a UAI of 40 and my UAI was 78.5

you can improve so much between trials and HSC exams and also you rmarks all get scaled, ur trial marks are raw marks and alsooooo with rankings that nice if you keep at those rankings in ur HSC exams u should do sweet as pie

this is kind of stupid, thinking that trials reflect what uai you would get

Why not make that small jump and aim for a UAI of 100?

if you want a 99.90 you practically need mid 90s for the sciences and business studies, high 80s for adv english or mid to high 40's (out of 50) for ext 1 and 2 english and you're well on your way

Maybe this is a stupid question, but are those marks raw or scaled?

Sweet! That makes me feel better. And another stupid question:

Do we find out what our raw HSC exam mark was for each subject?

Dont aim for a number, instead, aim to do the best you can possibly do!
Some people beat themselves up for getting 95 instead of 96, which is ridiculous!
If you've done the best you can, then you'll be happy with your UAI in the end, regardless of what it is!

are u at a selective high school? is ur school ranked in top 200?

and to the person that said ur trial marks were not indication of ur uai -- ur an idiot. They try and make trial hsc tests *similar* to actual hsc tests, so if ur getting good marks in them - chances are ur going to get a good uai - of couse its not accurate (not even close) but should give an indication.

some schools have really easy trials so the kids dont get discouraged. then again, some schools have mofo hard trials to fry their brains.

FOI has seldom been successful. dont count on getting lucky.

"if you put your trial marks into sam you are stupid."

Why?..

If you went to a decent school wouldnt your raw trial marks be lower than the UAI you could generally expect?

Because:

A) You'd improve leading up to the HSC
B) Your marks will scale up if your grade does well

SAM is only effective the when you get your actual HSC results (the day before your uai). other than that, its inaccurate and not a good place to start when thinking about uai estimations.
