Hi

Which would be more preferable? a radeon PCIe x16 X300SE or a radeon 9600SE ?
And how does tht compare with a nvidea geforce fx 5200??

the X300 has exactly the same feature of the 9600.

it is like comparing a FX5700 to a PCX5750.

the X300 isn't next generation. The next generation mid/low range cards will be realeased in 2-3 months. mabye another few months before they filter to australia.

I found it hard to compare those two cards because ati's website doesnt have a product comparison page on them, but it does for other cards!!

you can get one if you want....

depends if you must get the computer now.

cause an X300SE is only avaliable in pci express so i'm thinking you are prolly gettting a pretty high end computer. Therefore, i reckon that video card will seriously bottleneck your CPU in games.

However, if you don't play games get it. It is almost the lowest end PCI express card at the moment. However, I seriously recomend you wait for the next gen PCI express cards to come out if you want to play games.

Best bet is to put your big bucks in tomorows technology than try to squeeze's whatever AGP has got left.

The X300SE is a terrible card. Infact, the X300 series is pretty bad. Stay away from anything ATI with the SE tag, (and same deal for nVidia with the XTs).
You really need to label down your budget, and I personally hold the opinion that if you can only afford one of those two cards right now, you should hold on and save a bit more.

In terms of new generation, the X300, X600 and X800 are not new generation, just faster versions of the current gen (especially X800). The Geforce 6's however are new generation cards, with new hardware feature support like SM 3.0.

Haha, man I would so not spend $2,000 on those SLis right now. At best, they're only boosting about a 77% performance increase. Not bad, but not great either. And in the US, Alienware are selling their SLi 6800 Ultra systems for.. get this: $US5,000. Lemme see those eyes rolling people.

SLI was mainly for the Qudros anyway, where money is no object
