Hi!

Although, my ideal atar would be 94+, I would be happy to get anything above 90 :)
But I'm wondering what i need to aim for. What approximate marks or rankings would i need to get 94+ atar with these subjects (school ranked in about mid - high 60s):

English (Advanced)- About 80 students
Extension 1 Maths (2 units) - About 75 students
Extension 2 Maths (2 units) - 30 students
Chemistry - About 70 students
Physics - About 60 students
Music 2 - 15 students (Might drop either this or chem, but more likely this if it doesnt go well in my first assessment)

I'm not sure what course to pick at uni and I'm hoping that this atar of 94+ would allow me to get most of the courses i want.

Any advice is appreciated :)

Thank you

You need to keep your head high and grind everything that you see.
There's no miracle mate, you get out what you put in (with some solid strategies ofc).

And for HSC, according to calculators, you'll need about these marks for 94 ATAR
English Advanced 87
Maths x1 79
Maths x2 67
Chemistry 86
Physics 87
Music 2 90

Thanks :)
In year 11 I was in those ranks so hopefully it'll be similar in year 12. How about bands? Would you say at least 2 band 6 and the rest band 5?

For friend: school ranked 100 with rankings: 10-20. Band 5s/E3 in all subjects --> 95 ATAR (marks from 79-89) --> 4U, Eng (Adv), Chem, Phys

Imo didn't try too hard but very achievable for you.

Hahaha I guess it's looking less impossible for me now :)
Hopefully I'll be fine. Thanks for replying, but I always thought with those scores I'd get less e.g 85 atar. Are you sure that's right? :S
(Sorry, I'm a bit paranoid sometimes)

ask me I got 94.75
exactly same as you no music though
school is ranked in 30s and is selective

the tip to getting a good Atar are these three points
(1) know your content well. it's the only reason why my marks are reasonably good especially for chemistry
(2) do practice and past hsc. most people tell you to do trial papers but these are hit and miss sometimes, a good trial paper such as sydney grammar however can help but don't neglect the hsc. it is important to get (1) out of the way before doing past papers so you can get a realistic idea of how you will go.
(3) sponge off good teachers and the good/well performing students. learn what you can, tips, techniques etc.
(4) May sound as bit strange, but help others in your school. because they will either hell you but also if your school does better in the hsc (not talking about assessments) then alightment is better.
(5) A good rank. Because you are doing similar courses to me I would recommend not to stress too much if you have a strong cohort or if your marks are too low. Put it this way, my highest mark of 90 was originally a 72 or even 68 if you count year 11.
(6) Do well in the trials.

I got 94.15 which I was a little disappointed in as my teachers always told me I'd get higher but I got 90 in advanced English 43 in extension English 90 in mathematics 41 in extension maths 83 in Chem which didn't count 90 in bio and 89 in pdhpe and school was ranked about 200

Just study and have a consistent routine that you will stick to. It's more possible than you may think.
