Yes of course.

But you don't want to use it that much in the exam or else you'll be wasting time.

Only Continuers, Extension, Background Speakers and CCAFL. And only to be used in READING TIME.
ONLY in the reading time?

Are you serious? Can't it be used throughout the exam?

Beginners: NO dictionaries allowed

Continuers and Extension: Dictionaries ALLOWED, and CAN be used out throughout the WHOLE exam

If you look at the back of your HSC Exam Timetable, you will see the rules and regulations for the exams.

I suggest people that you read this. And take your own interpetation!

HSC 2005 Examination Timetable, last page.

The use of monolingual and/or bilingual print dictionaries (but NOT electronic dictionaries) is permitted in the Continuers, Extension … written language examinations. Dictionaries may be consulted during reading time and during the examination. Dictionaries may NOT be used in Beginners language examinations, NOR in Continuers and Extension examinations for classical languages – Latin, Classical Greek and Classical Hebrew.
You can breathe, everyone :p.
