i think he realised that he sucks so the options are a horrible slow drowning under the waves or a career in musical mediocrity
he's not committing suicide
i think its meant to be like a release or something
or maybe just for visual effect....
edit: he isn't mediocre...his album just went to no 1 on the charts. Of course, if you're a purist, I don't expect you to understand that. His songs are not complex musically (well, the acoustic guitar anyway) and i admit that my first reaction to playing his songs was "oh. is this all? too simple....blegh"...but often the most beautiful songs have the most simple music accompanying it
