Depends on individuals.

I will personally go for modern though.

Re: which is harder

difficulty wise, they're a similar standard
BUT in terms of work required ancient is much much worse
some of the sections in ancient are HUGE eg 22 points, you get tested on one

the key difference is one relies more on sources, the other on historians
depends which one you prefer studying

Re: which is harder

can i also ask why you think its harder

i was under the impression that ancient has a heap of content and is more about

just regurgitating masses of content, i also heard that it sometimes hard to

understand the lifestyles back then.

on the other hand, modern has essays which you have to analyze and put forward

an argument, but it is easier because easier to understand because we are pretty

much living in the aftermath of ww1.

but i dont know

Ancient History: Less sources, much of the information is assumed and dates and stuff are estimated. Less to remember but you have to remember it all.
Modern History: A lot of sources, information and historiographies. You have to be able to remember information which is relevant to your purpose.

That's basically a simplified description.

you think? in my experience you have to know quite a bit for both. People seem to think ancient is all regurgitation and no analysis, im curious as to what kind of marks they get in ancient

no i disagree with you here, ancient is a much bigger subject particularly in regards to the personality study.. therefore a lot MORE to remember

and what do you mean by 'sources'... if you mean historians, you don't need to know a lot of historians, 2-3 is ample to pull off an a-range essay, it's all about the argument

i dropped at the end of year 11 because it was bad enough then lol

but my school does:
agrippina
and augustus... as the period study which i've heard is even more of a bitch

i always thought modern was heaps easier... you can make pretty much everything up, especially in core

i guess it's what you find easier
if you like the argumentative part more then modern's easier
if you like remember heaps of stuff go ancient
if you want to die do history extension

i do not understand why people see these subjects this way??? ancient is just as argumentive as modern, do other people not do this in their ancient essays?

Definately ancient - there's FAR more content (as many of the questions dont derive from the 'key questions and issues')

for example, they can only ask you about 3 questions in the modern history personality module, in ancient they can ask you about a dozen.

At the same time most modern history teachers are pretty dodge. I'd go with what your school tends to be strongest in.

i thought in ancient you only needed to present one view
whereas modern the more views you know the better
