Some uni course may specify advanced English. Most standard students don't get high bands and there are very few band 6s.

The Board of Studies will reward students undertaking more intensive work i.e English Advanced, so that's why English Standard students must try really hard to overtake English Advanced students

so, not to sound mean or anything, but advanced students will always do better than standard? even if for example, the advanced student is averaging 60 and the standard averages 80?

im not sure how it works exactly, but the answer to this question is scaling.
screws everything up.

we were told in school that its near impossible to get a band 6 in standard eng, but thats not to say that you should be doing advanced so you can get a band 6, ultimately the best thing you can do is do the level of english that you are most capable of

You are given the chance to compete with the English Advanced cohort ...
Really, I would rather get a Band 5 in Standard than Band 3 if I did Advanced.

I hate English Paper 2 ... bloody Yearly Exam ...

its too late now ...
... your HSC is coming very very soon ...

And i see a trend between english and maths were a person can either have

1. Advanced English or 3U English + General Maths

2. English Standard or ESL + 2U Maths or 3U Maths

And I am just proud at the second choice ...

By the way, do graduated Year 12s have their formals before or after external HSC exams ?

most schools have their formals after HSC- i think. My school does. it would be silly to have it before

And I see another trend where a typical "gal" picks Biology, Buisness Studies and General Mathematics, all in the name of "nice n easy" ... while boring guys like me :( pick Physics, Chemistry and 3U Maths ... :(
