I know people who had their entire life planned out in like year 9. As they got older they slowly realized that plan would have to drastically change, into something that did not resemble the old plan.

So when you were young.. young-er, what did you think you were going to do when you were older, and do you now think that's going to work out?

I have never had a plan because I knew it was pointless. As Yr 12 is ending I still don't have a plan and am kinda regretting it.

To be honest, I've never had any sense of direction. Sure, I knew what I wanted from life, but the problem was getting there.

But I can say that I always imagined myself living a peaceful, successful life by myself - and lots of money. I considered the typical things: law, medicine, business.. but that's all going out the window :p

I prefer keeping things loose (hate commitments) so I guess I'll just go with whatever happens at the time, and when I really have to make a decision (indecisiveness plagues me).

I've had so many plans as a youngin:
First, I wanted to be a vet. I absolutely adore animals and thought it'd be great helping them. Then my dad told me you had to practise on worms, and having a massive phobia of bugs destroyed that dream of mine. What a jerk of a father. (Since then I've realised I'd hate dealing with the abused or dying animals, and I cbf getting such a high ENTER and going through the effort)
Second, I wanted to be a scientist. Thanks to all those 'science is cool' tv shows I thought it'd be a great job and wearing a lab coat and goggles seemed pretty awesome. Then I chose to do year 11 chemistry and it was one of the most boring things I've ever had to endure. Instead of mixing stuff together and creating cool colours and funky smells we were left measuring liquids or analysing burnt peanuts.
Then over the years I've had other dreams; the rich and famous actress/singer/anything famous really, a journalist, a medical specialist, a fashion designer, an IT person, a dropkick gold digging housewife..
But in the end I figure there are so many changes in life it would be stupid to decide what you want to do and stick with only that dream. We had to write a plan of our lives in year 9, and being married at 24, a mother at 26 blah blah blah just seems too soon. I want to live life, not follow some plan I created!

pretty much took the words out of my mouth. I got turned off being a vet while i was at "work experiece". if you call cleaning dog and cat poop for 3 days experience lol...but i actually witnessed acouple of operations and it totally made me realise how much of a pansy i am when it comes to that sorta stuff....so that pretty much flew out the window.
bah its so annoying, im still changing my mind every so often and im doin a business course. im pretty sure people who say they know what they want are lying :p

i have never really had a plan for my life until half way through this year (i'm in year 12). i want to open a computer repair business. i'm going to go to about 3 tafe course for the qualifications and i am going to find work in the mean time. that is it. a simple life in which i make enough money to live comfortably. i hope to get married one day but i dont want kids. thats my life all planned out until i retire

I live from day to day.

Food I get.
School.
Girlfriend.
Studying.

All day to day.
I've never had a plan and that can turn out badly, but I know that if I stay focused it'll all be fine.

When I was younger I tossed up between investing more time in playing bass/learning a classical instrument so I could get into the con and doing law (push came to shove with my year 10 electives). I chose the latter and whilst I get a bit nostalgic everytime I go out and my friends talk up an awesome jazz/classical musician I think I made the right choice.

My life is pretty formulaic. I come from a professional middle class family and will end up in the upper-middle class, will probs end up at a top/mid tier lawfirm and spend my 20s-30s living like Patrick Bateman before kids/yacht/ex wife who steals my cash through child support.

Oh, and I'm gonna have a fucking epic tombstone. I've been planning this shit and I'm thinking a massive weeping angel with wings that engulf everything in a 3m radius. Fuck yeahs brah!

I've changed plans about a million times. I know this girl who has a life plan for the next twenty years and I honestly think that's really stupid. You never know what will happen. You could die in two years. I have a rough idea of what I'd like, but I'm really just taking it as it comes and doing what I want.

I always wanted to do something with science - career choices for me have included scientist, GP, dentist, pediatrician, vet...

Now I'm going to uni next year and studying Science/Maths but don't know what career to follow, ho hum.

i wanted to be a cashier for AGES... since i was like 7. you know, just working in a little shop selling stuff - from stickers to food to music to clothes. It was quite depressing for my parents

then i got a job at KFC at the end of year 10 and decided i wanted to be a lawyer instead - that made them very happy.

the harsh reality is those are unrealistic expectations.

I make it all up as I go along. That really is the way to do it. I've changed majors so many times, I'm a major in majoring!
