You should do advanced physics if you have the ability. I would never do the normal version of any course if advanced is available, even if I haven't done it before.

S1:
MATH1001 - Differential Calculus
MATH1002 - Linear Algebra
CHEM1901 - Chemistry 1A (Advanced)
BIOL1001 - Concepts in Biology
HPSC1000 - Bioethics

S2:
MATH1003 - Integral Calculus and Modelling
MATH1004 - Discrete Mathematics
CHEM1902 - Chemistry 1B (Advanced)
PHYS1500 - Astronomy
ANHS1602- Greek and Roman Myth

But I got home after enrollment and I recieved an invitation into talented student program so im gonna change my chem subjects to the SSP version. Also im considering changing bioethics to bioethics (adv) coz im doing a BSc (Adv) and it looks kinda juvenile to only be doing 12CP's of advanced subjects the whole yr, even tho there isnt a minimum or maximum for advanced units in 1st yr.

Chemistry SSP and adv streams only differ in the labs, and chem SSP has awesome labs. I had so much fun in those. Only chem SSP students get to participate in the SYDONA project (joint effort of USYD and U Arizona) - you get this complicated recipe to make a mysterious coordinated compound over 2-3 weeks and then you spend the next 6-7 weeks carrying out a huge variety of experiments to figure out what you've created and its chemical formula/structure. Definitely do it.

I don't think there's any requirement on the number of advanced units that you have to do in 1st year. But to stay in the advanced stream in 2nd/3rd year, at least half of your units have to be advanced (so 24cp in one year). The load in 1st year is actually pretty light even on all advanced units so I do think it'll be a good idea to do at least 24cp of advanced units in 1st year to get a feel for it and get into a good study habit. If you're thinking about doing HPSC1901 then have a look at the difference between the two - sometimes it's only a matter of a few extra seminars which you'll be asked a question or two about in the final exam, other times it can actually mean a lot of extra work. So have a think about which other subject apart from chemistry you're more insterested in. That's probably the best one to do at advanced level.
