What did your class use and the topic sentence or main idea of this poem?

I'm not sure what you mean by 'what did your class use', but for starters, we used the poem, to analyse it. There is really no one 'topic sentence', and various ideas exposed in the poem range from being outside his social norm (not belonging) to a close-ish familial relationship with his mother and you could even argue the statue in the school yard, protecting him whilst he's in school.
