In all seriousness though, you need to learn to crawl before you can walk.

In other words, for half the socially inept and desperate viewers of this forum (2500 views... come on guys...), just trying to keep a conversation with someone of the opposite sex can be a struggle. No amount of pick up tips is going to help you when your approach sucks and you couldn't socialise even if your engineering degree depended on it.

Simply put, start small with a simple chat. Learn to small talk (I hate it but its necessary), socialise and just build your confidence up. Whenever you're ready, try whatever pick-up methods have been mentioned in this thread before or elsewhere.
