I think perhaps she means to say that considering the lack of racial diversity within the university community there was never the chance for significant amounts of racial prejudice to surface in the beginning.

Wasn't she?

But the main reason for the lack of racism was because it was not very diverse and the majority of people were white.
that sounds very contradictory lol

are you saying more diversity and less white ppl creates more racism? *scratches head*

But if there is no diversity and people rarely, if ever, see someone that's not white, then there would be no racism. Sort of like if there are no people with disabilities, you can't discriminate against them.

Bullying doesn't really exist at university. It's not as simple as that.

I would redefine it with the words "prejudice" and "condescending difference of opinion". Those sort of things are what you'll find running rampant at any university.

If people have a problem with each other at university it is more likely to be a difference of opinion than anything related to the way they look, speak or act. At uni the differences in appearance are completely irrelevant - people are interested in your mind, your opinions, your theories, your arguments. If someone can make a valid point in a tutorial, nobody cares where they come from or anything of the sort. I think the bullying doesn't really exist at uni because uni is an intellectual environment and the people are mature enough to understand that everyone is entitled to hold and express their opinions.

Having said that, at melbourne uni the Socialist Alternative get a bit of shit, but it's all light-hearted! Even then, people use logic and reasoning and arguments to make their point, not snide comments about their appearance etc.

OP sounds like a fucking pussy.

Who still even worries about "bullying" lol. Anyone that cares what others think or allows someone else to impact on their own social value is weak and correspondingly deserving of such ridicule.

I'm going to disregard anything said in this thread; tl;dr.

Bullies would generally be non-existant in University, I'd imagine.
Unless we're just talking about pricks like myself.

That type seem to gradually thin out as you pass your SC, and then completely disperse once you complete your HSC. University is for the kids who made it through school in shining colours, so to speak, not the kids who felt like fucking things up for everyone else because they couldn't make the grades.

Edit:

OP sounds like a fucking pussy.

wait so you're saying there can't be any diversity unless there's lots of different skin colours?

that's a fairly racist thing to say
No thats not what i'm saying. I'm not racist at all.

there are still bullies, and so long as your not a dweeb and stand up for yourself u will be ok

you may have to fight the guy or at least get into a verbal argument with him, bullies usually step down after that, the other people will around will see who is right and who is wrong. and the other people in your year will respect you for sticking up for yourself.

generally the bullies at uni people hate and despise.

That's like saying if you fill a room with Klansmen there's not going to be any bigoted comments made because they're racially homogenous.

If you have a room of Klansmen who have never seen anyone other than another Klansman and has no real concept of the existence of blacks or whatever Klansmen want to lynch, then yes.

No Bullies at uni, your typical high school bully dropped out in year 10 and if he somehow made it to year 12 he is too dumb to realise what university is.
You wouldn't get bullies. The community is just too big and diverse for people to form cliques and besides that people really have better things to do with their time while on campus. I myself have never witnessed anything racist on campus, but university is just a cross section of the outside public so there is bound to be those people who share those ideals. You will still be hard pressed to find easily though.
bullies NO
Racism YES. its just not out in the open like high school
Well, i'm a bully and i'm going to university so I would say yes.

I dont think there is bullying at unis.. Most of the high school bullies are dumbasses and no way they would have made it to uni anywayz. Besides even if there was , i doubt they even have time to bully others or just fail uni.

LOL whats even more funny @ UWS, you see people of all cultures together hanging together then you see a bunch of 20 girls wearing hijabs sitting in one group, hahah, and they say we're the ones who make them feel like outisders, please.
man, wtf? people who talk shit about their own kind are the worst type of people.

they're the shit stains of society.

I'm not a Muslim anymore so they aren't my kind, I do have Muslim friends, but those are the ones who are westernized and dont practice their religion. If I walked up to them (the "Religious" Muslims) and told them I am not a Muslim anymore or that I'm Gay how do you think these Muslims will act toward me? I've had it happen before and it wasnt pretty.
no, i'm all for religion bashing.

but i've seen you talk shit about arabs. why?

do you feel that you need to talk trash about your own culture in order to fit in?

it's pretty low, dude.
