So I'm planning to do it next year, but every one I tell is like OMG! how are you going to live through it yada yada. Even my mum's like... don't do it, it's pointless [meaning I'm not smart enough]. But what is seriously so hard about it? You learn everything you know, you apply it into context, it shouldn't be any different from 2 or 3 unit maths. Just more complex stuff and more of it I guess. And here's the thing, I do want to do it for next year. Basically I just want to know is it seriously as hard as every one makes it seem?

It's not bad at all. The questions can get tricky, but if you're smart and understand concepts, you'll be perfectly fine.

It's hard, weirdly hard (I mean deceptively hard)

It's in a completely different sphere to 2 & 3 unit maths. In the lower levels, the concepts and knowledge are more concrete, whereas 4 unit requires more "intuitive/abstract" ways of thinking. (Although there are some topics that can be covered with ease ie polynomials, curve sketching, integration)

It requires a very meticulous approach to all problems (especially in the harder topics like mechanics). This is the hardest part.

overrated
srs??!!! either you are kidding or you are a bloody genius.
4 unit is quite hard, if you are killing 3 unit, i would advise you to take 4 unit, if not still take, but if dont really like 4 unit, drop it after a term and concentrate on your other subjects, because 4 unit will take most of your time.

My maths tutor, who did 4unit last year, said it wasnt difficult - ''if you think its difficult, then it will be difficult, but if you think its easy, then it will be easy''

Easy for him to say... considering he topped it last year...

far from it, 4unit is pretty basic and simple.

only q 6-7-8 require abstract thinking, 1-5 is often very procedural

you have to study intensively thats all.
but don't fall in the trap. its not a piece of cake.

4u involves lots of thinking questions. make sure you know your basics very well to ace 4U. you have to stay on your toes or u will be trailing behind

yea pretty much.

if you are a super maths orientated person, you might be able to get through the course with a good mark with by doing little study.

otherwise it just requires effort. but even the latter half of the exam, you can usually steal a few marks for just doing the prep work for the hard questions.

I also agree that its overrated. properly taught, its not that hard at all.

Its a little tricky and other questions are time consuming...

but other than that, if you have enough focus then you'll do fine in 4 unit

if you can solve this:

x + 4 = x + 3 (find the value of x)

you should do 10 unit maths

@ Dumbledore: You can obviously do 10 unit maths then.
