Hmm, I've Googled cars for rent if you're aged under 21 or on P-plates, and it seems there isn't a company that caters for both. Just an interesting thought. Does anyone know of car companies that do rent to people aged under 21 and on their P-plates?

I personally think it's ridiculous you can obtain an international driving licence on your Ps as long as you're over 18, but by that token you wouldn't be able to rent a car probably anywhere in the world, if they stick to the minimum age limit of 21. How else would you get a car if you're travelling?

On Provisional Licence? Definitely not. Under 21? Definitely not.

Even if there were companies that rented cars to these groups, they would be extremely expensive.

You wouldn't really be able to get a car for hire. Looks like you'd have to rely on public transport. Planes, trains, buses.

You would either purchase a car in the country you're visiting, or go without and travel via other means. Access to private transport is not a right and it's economically prohibitive for companies to insure vehicles to be used by high risk drivers.

buy a cheap car from a backpacker, drive it for a while, sell it to another backpacker

I also need to do this and i am also on my P's, I was thinking of just getting an Adult (cuzin) to get it for me and drive it carefully, and plus you can take insurance on the car for like an extra couple of bucks..

Yeah but the premium you pay whilst renting the car only covers the driver(s) that you nominate. Only. Not to mention a bunch of 'processing' fees that you'll cop after the fact, regardless of whether you're at fault or not.

So yeah, if you are planning on taking this route, try not to hit anything expensive.
