To get electricity from the power stations in Hunter Valley to the home, there must be very low power loss which means there must be a very low current, since Powerloss = I^2R. This will 'cause the electricity to have a very high voltage because P=VI, and the voltage must be stepped down before it enters the home. Only AC current may be used with transformers, and so DC is not used.

DC can be used to, u just need a switch going off and on off and on constantly to produce a moving magnetic field which will allow it to be transformed, however it is not efficient, loosing a large amount of its energy when being tranformed.

another reason why we use AC in homes.
when we are changing chemical energy (or other forms) to electrical energy through the use of a generator, we have 2 types of generators that can be used. AC and DC. AC generators requires less maintenance thus being cheaper to use.

do u know how a transformer works? that may help u understand
