I have found lately while I am going through a couple of past papers for 2U + 3U maths that it gets hard to concentrate after doing them for a while... because I am keeping within the time constraints while doing each paper. i.e. obviously no breaks while doing the paper but I'd recuperate before each new question quickly (as I would in the exam)...

Does anyone else find that they get eye strain or something similar when doing past papers? Especially for maths I find this occurring. Opinions?

No such thing for me. I don't notice anything around me when I decide to 100% concentrate.

Anyway, my mindset is just "full speed ahead". Probably you get eye strain because you're concentrating and get the wrinkle between your eyebrows. When I do that, my eyes 'pop' out.

Just saying.

Hehe, lol.

When I'm in the middle of a question I've noticed that I notice nothing around me at all! (haha how contradictive to say XD)... but I understand how you really get into a question and doing it fast, but of course correct.

I think it might have been the poor lighting where I was sitting doing the papers.

lol yeah, it's nice, that trance-like state.

About the lighting, don't mix white paper and sunlight for more than an hour. Gave me horrible eyesight.

Are you doing it on computer? (ie, is the paper on the computer?) If so, perhaps print it out.

not for me, because I do them with music on. I stop every 5 minutes. I don't time myself when I practice.

Well I don't really have any weak points in my 2U stuff at all... just need to keep practicing now. Although for Extension, I have been breaking the exams up and using Excel to practice and learn techniques.

On paper.

You really should get into the habit of timing yourself for the HSC exams... you have to know your time very well.... although this year they are trialing 'extra time' which allow an extra 30 minutes for breaks of your own choosing throughout a 3 hour exam (these break times are shortened obviously as the exams are shorter).

Check it out on Board of Studies.

Are you sure that's not just for those damn special provisions kids? I know some people who get "rest time". It would be soooo good to have rest time in the English exams.

I would suggest doing some under exam conditions, and others at your own rate. It's less stressful that way, and you put less strain on yourself.

wot?!?!

This is too good to be true.
It's in the 'special needs' section. If you can provide ample proof/evidence that you need to take rests/breaks to recooperate because you suffer from anxiety/stress/fatigue etc (i.e. doctor certificate or something of proof) then you can apply for the extra time/breaks.

Yeah, stuff like that is bullshit in my opinion. Now if it were offered to every single student, then I'd be fine. Anxiety/Stress/Fatigue is what most people suffer from in the HSC, especially during the bloody exams. Who doesn't get tired after writing non-stop for an hour?
