Here is the problem:

I go to a relatively small school (Arden Anglican School).
I want to choose either economics or business studies for year 11 and 12.
I personally think economics is more interesting than business studies and apparently it scales really well.
But...
my school has no experience in teaching economics. Arden Secondary School only started operating 7 years ago and last year, our first year 12 students completed their HSC but no one chose economics. Business studies was running though.
This year, once again, no one chose economics. Business studies was still running.

So, right now, I don't know which subject i should choose.

Can anyone provide me with some good pros and cons of choosing economics and business studies?

Thanks:)

Choose Economics for so many reasons (most of them you've listed yourself... scaling, interest etc.)

Even if your school has no experience teaching eco, you should be able to do okay by teaching yourself the knowledge from the textbooks along with the teachers as well (the legal studies, business studies and maths teachers will be able to help you out!).

Last time I checked economics was about the same as business, if not higher?

Economics
- better scaling
- you learn things on a wider scale
- definitely not dry. It's not just about regurgitating
- more interesting
- I like it!

omg. My school is ditto, and infact my school actually started operating 5 years ago (Only about 10 people have done the HSC in TOTAL).
You should just take economics, and let the problem sort it self out. As you have told, your school may not be offerring Economics anyway so voila! Either way from what I've heard it is better.

Think of Economics like Business Studies on a larger scale. Anyway, at my school (which also happens to be an Anglican school like yours), all the... less intellectually gifted people took Business Studies, while all the intellectually able people took Economics. They were on different lines, meaning you had some overlap.

Take Econ. If you do Commerce, and are good at it - expect to get the about the same percentage-wise in exams. Commerce is like... the greatest lead in to Economics. I got 96% in Commerce, followed it up with 83% in the Econ Yearly (which was the highest... by a big margin).

Economics: learning about the economy.

Business Studies: learning how to run a business.

Pretty simple but someone had to say it. As mentioned by me a fair while back, choose economics.
