Guys, dont go kissing your band 5's and 6's away just yet!
The markers in the marking centres use scaling. They look at everybodys responses and if everyone has typically done bad they move 5's into 6's and 4's into 5's.
This years exam was rather difficult and was not what was to be expected.
Particularly the history source question. In previous years the questions have been simple and about the tent embassy etc etc and as a result there were better marks. However this year it has been very difficult. Therefore people will typically do bad and you will all be scaled upward and get decent marks.
It is all just about your results being good in comparison to the state!

aww thankyou you made me feel better

really =)

Pretty good, just wasn't especially keen on the strategies geo response (I talked about conducting federal enquiries re Aboriginal disadvantagedness/ homelessness/ people trafficking, plus stumped myself a bit by getting embroiled in refugee solutions! Lots on land/water management, good. Didn't like the historian-using-sources in one of the short answer responses, just annoying. Aiming for 90 plus (hopefully 95!!!)
Welcome back life! It's awful during exam season, makes me feel guilty about reading novels in my spare time...

thats fine. This years questions were challening particularly the source one.
I sat the sc in 07 and got a band 6. The questions however were ALOT easier. The markers will realise that this year and marks will most certainly go up. Good luck for when your results are released.x

Oh wait You mean MULTIPLE CHOICE. I thought you meant long response or some sort of response. I put the first one because
'Under the colombo plan in 1950, Asian students were allowed to come to Australia to study but had to return when finished'

elderly care
and the United Nations work in terms external issues of human rights
and then stated strategies to fix these problems

Let's hope everyone in the state stuffed up the long response for geo on human rights so we can get epic scaling =)

declaration of human rights would have been so good to have in there.
i was bullshitting the whole way.
i think i didnt do too well,
but it means nothing in your hsc
i blacked out in maths and science and then i went back over the stuff i couldnt remember doing, and it looked better than i couldve done if i was concious

For the geography long response, the only thing I wrote about how the placement of asylum seekers in mandatory detentions was a breach of human rights D: Then talked about strategies.

I felt so bad for only writing about one human rights issue.

well, for the human rights I put stuff about aboriginal reconciliation and human rights issues in Australia. I had some information to connect the reconciliation to human rights. We did not learn enough about human rights in my geography class. I found the history extended response slightly easier than the geography one, and im not even doing history next year.
Was really expecting more on foreign aid and air quality, considering thats what 95% of our geog. syllabus consisted off.

still hoping for a band 5 in geog. though.

I thought Geo multiple choice was easy.
For every long response I just threw down everything I could think of.
yes me too. esp. the last question in geo, it didnt flow like its meant to. it was more like bulletpoints of information

what a terrible, terrible exam
lol
the history wasn't too bad.... but we hardly got taught anything

and as for geography, we spent a majority of our time on coastal management and a little bit on aid, then 2 lessons on human rights
what happens in the exam? THERES A HUMAN RIGHTS QUESTION WOTH EFFING 15 MARKS!
and the other class in our year had a simila story, their teacher told them they didn't need to learn it because it was one of those "optional topics" <_<

btw.. on that dam question.. anyone know the answer to it? i had no clue what to write, and seeing as im already fed up with exams and it was our last one i simply wrote "if the individual or group action is against the proposal they could petition or lobby against it and protest with catchy slogans such as "Reject The DAM Plan!" or "I Don't Give A DAM!" " x]
Bahahaha! I wrote about bloody landcare... >_>

The geo extended response was just mean. I talked about the asylum seekers and Howard's recent criticism of it. Even though that was more about politics than it was geography.

LOVED HISTORY! I was mentally congratulating the Board of Studies for putting Vietnam as the extended response. Domino theory for the win. Some of the mc's were more difficult than in previous years. Oh well, glad they're over :).
