Yeah sorry if this is the wrong part of the forums, I've never really been able to place where to put these questions.

Basically, I can't decide whether I should be going for a law course at a lower tier uni (it'd be macquarie) or trying and failing to get into sydney or NSW instead and hence ultimately doing a comm/arts degree at sydney. I'm expecting an ATAR of maybe 95-98, probably 96 or 97. I'm pretty sure law interests me more than commerce, but is it preferable to go to sydney and try for a transfer through commerce into their law course? Or instead go to macquarie and directly do law from there?

Also, I'm interested in doing arts alongside either law or commerce. Would there be a significant difference between the arts faculties of Sydney and Macquarie?

This might seem a bit vague, but hopefully someone can help me. Thanks.

usyd has best arts faculty in sydney (i think)

its a tough decision, and i guess is depends on how much you really want to study law. if you take comm/arts at usyd/unsw then you really have to ace your subjects to be guaranteed a successful transfer (i dont know how well you have to do, i remember there being a thread recently that talked about transferring to law)

otherwise MQ would probably be the better choice, cause if you take the above option and dont manage to get the transfer for whatever reason, you arent doing law, while if you go to MQ, you will do law regardless

so MQ would be the safe choice IMO, although it shouldnt depend on which uni you graduate from

hmm thanks guys. I've got another question! :D

Which would be better for law, macq or uts? Would there be much of a dif? Last year I think UTS was about 97.5 while mac was 95 or something..

And to absorber, studying law @ macquarie can be quite fun, i personally was in the same situation as you last year and chose law @ macquarie over the other option of going to unsw and transferring internally. So far i do not regret it, and say if you really want to study law, getting into the course is a start and i think macquarie is a good place to start.

Just remember that UTS doesn't have the arts component, other then international studies.

LAW at MQ isnt the best, but the Arts program is awesome, unless you're desperate to be a lawyer at a top tier firm it wont be a problem though! If you are interested in Arts and you arent that interested in top tier firms MQ would be better

o_O really? Hmm I didn't check that, but they don't offer arts/law? wow.

Thanks guys. There seems to be divided opinion on which is better with UTS v. Mac though

Law at UTS is not very good from what i can tell. My gf does law there, teachers never give you feedback face to face (always saying they're busy or whatever) and just tell you to read the course outline or send them an email. Random tutors hitting on students, remember one case where a student did not even turn up to half her classes, and didn't participate in the other half, but got a HD for class participation regardless coz the tutor 'liked' her. lol The course itself i don't think is set out very well either, especially the readings, basically tell you to read random chapters of everything. (nearly impossible to do every week)

but thats just my impression, should ask other people who actually go there =)
