Uganda proposes death penalty for HIV positive gays

Britain and Canada protested yesterday over a proposed law that would result in gays in Uganda being imprisoned for life or even executed.

Gordon Brown followed Stephen Harper, the Canadian Prime Minister, in telling Uganda that the legislation was unacceptable.

Mr Brown made his views plain in a breakfast conversation with President Museveni of Uganda on the margins of the Commonwealth summit.

Homosexuality remains criminalised in many Commonwealth countries, but the more liberal countries have been horrified by the new legislation.

The Anti-Homosexuality Bill 2009 is going through Uganda’s Parliament after receiving its first reading last month.

According to Clause 2 of the Bill, a person who is convicted of gay sex is liable to life imprisonment. But if that person is also HIV positive the penalty — under the heading “aggravated homosexuality” — is death.

The Bill has not been endorsed by the Ugandan government but it has allowed it to proceed, and some top officials are said to have praised it.

A Canadian government spokesman said: “If adopted, a Bill further criminalising homosexuality would constitute a significant step backwards for the protection of human rights in Uganda.”

The Bill proposes a three-year prison sentence for anyone who is aware of evidence of homosexuality and fails to report it to the police within 24 hours. And it would impose a sentence of up to seven years for anyone who defends the rights of gays and lesbians.

Addressing the Commonwealth People’s Forum, Stephen Lewis, the former UN envoy on Aids in Africa, said that the Bill made a mockery of Commonwealth principles. “Nothing is as stark, punitive and redolent of hate as the Bill in Uganda.”
About time a Christian Nation follows the laws of their book.

Well i guess that's one way of addressing the problem....

I wonder what an all gay prison would be like?

There are some fucked up people in this forum. Giving aid to Uganda would be pointless to fight HIV/AIDS disease as this would make the situation worse. Why go to the doctor to seek help about HIV when your going to be locked up anyways. Uganda must put out this bill if their going to be able to help their already out of control AIDS/HIV problem in that country. And this also goes against Christian principals of no killing, so much for trying to be 'Christian'.

Hey remember the time Muslim Somalia stoned a 12 year old for being raped?
The system of the Allah is A) required upon humanity to implement and B) the only system worth considering to implement as the Creator is infinitely more wise then any human being in devising a system of controls for humanity (politics, social interactions, etc). The Creator has said in his books that the punishment for adultery is stoning by death then this must be enforced. For anyone questioning this is also question the creator.

I'd support the complete cessation of all foreign aid to Uganda should this bill succeed

I'd like the Church to execute itself for spreading AIDS and causing death and destruction much more than homosexuality has ever done.

Anyone with half a brain knows what the Pope says is based on douchebagery. It's not the churches fault that these African people are morons for listening to him rabble on.

The Church isn't spreading Aids you idiot. Do you even know what 'spreading' actually means?

The condom policies haven't done shit. North Africa is Muslim and the AIDS rate across the region is significantly lower than that of Protestant Central and Southern Africa. I'd imagine that most of these Islamic swine abstain from sex until they marry their 7 year old wives. Notwithstanding the repugnant nature of these marriages, the abstinence of fornication obviously works, hence the controllable AIDS rate.

Africa isn't a Catholic continent. There are only 100 million Catholics in Africa so what the Catholic Church say essentially falls on death Protestant and Heathen ears. In fact, Angola is one of the few predominantly Catholic countries in Africa and their AIDS rate is lower than that of its neighbours like Botswana and South Africa which are fundamentally Protestant countries. The Protestant’s should be blamed for this, not the Catholic Church.

i.e

Pope - Don't use condoms because it will compound the problem if you illiterate Africans see it as an opening to unreasonably sate your carnal desires.

Heathen/Protestant - I don't answer to you.

If you and your atheist buddies are so concerned about the absence of condoms, then fucking buy some condoms and export them to Africa and thus fill the vacuum left by the Church.
Actually, it's more like 160 million Catholics in Africa. Predicted to be about 250 million in 20 years.

Yeah Angola's got it great. 55% Catholic, and only a 20% infection rate. Hallelujah!

Although you have a fair point. It's not just Catholicism that has screwed up Africa, it's all Christian denominations. As they've done so many times, the Church charged into a continent, taking it upon themselves to convert entire populations of pagans and "savages". Committing genocide in the process, forever stuffing up those countries.

See Africa, South America, Oceania.

You're very aggressive there, friend. Assuming you're Christian, shouldn't you be being a bit nicer to me? After all, Christianity is supposed to be the source of all morality.

okay if you lack the self control to not have sex with everything that moves and get AIDS as a result then tough titties

However, because of issues of unsustainable population growth it is essential that Africans have access to birth control, not just for their sake but for the rest of the world.

I mean, for one thing we're trying to cut greenhouse emissions by like less than one percent globally through our emissions trading scheme under the delusion that this will actually make the slightest difference, meanwhile Forrest razing to accommodate expanding populations contributes close to a quarter of global emissions annually

furthermore the recent (past decade recent) increase in the number of young men in Africa being involved with gangs and terrorist groups has been attributed to more and more people living in poverty, due to increases in population

and if the pope wants to condemn condom use, fine, but to knowingly spread lies and propaganda about them actually being responsible for the spread of HIV is fucking revolting

Um, Aborigines? The whole stolen generations thing... Just a little bit of a screw up by Christianity there...

And many Islands in the Pacific have been feeling the effects of Christian colonisation for years.

This region is definitely less affected than Africa and South America, but it's still an example. Besides, if you don't believe that one, just look at the other two. They're bad enough to make up for it.

I find your conjecture to be objectionable. I will methodically refute your lies as I strive to ensure that your brain comprehends the content of my post.

Firstly - 250 Million Catholics will be fantastic. It will mean that there will be a more morally aware population concentrated in Africa amongst the lions and leopards. This will be catalytic for a more controlled AIDS rate as more individuals will discharge their moral and religious duties by abstaining from fornication.
Yes, because Catholicism has done so well at providing morality in the past. Although there was that teensy little issue of the Rwandan genocide. In the most Catholic African country of the time, the massacre was incited by Catholic priests, nuns and bishops, who encouraged the people to slaughter the Tutsi and Hutu brethren. 800,000 to 1,000,000 people were murdered.

Secondly - The problem of Angola cannot be answered and is thus moot. However, as a rational and reasonable Christian, I am of the belief that it can be surmised that the morally aware Catholics will have a lower AIDS rate than that of their Heathen and Protestant subordinates. Yes, certainly those unfortunate 20 percent suffering from AIDS will be insubordinate to the teachings of the Catholic Church about condoms; hence the AIDS sadly.
Fact of the matter: Condoms prevent HIV, the Church prevents condoms. Not helpful, it is in fact detrimental.

Hahaha, "rational and reasonable Christian". I find the very existence of them to be rare, if real at all.

Thirdly - You're an idiot. Christianity was introduced to Africa by St. Mark who entered Egypt and played an instrumental role in converting the heathen population from the grass roots. It was my people, the Copts, Egyptians, Africans who were the first Christians. Christ fled to Egypt which once more unequivocally highlights the history of Christianity in Egypt and Africa. The spread of Christianity was thoroughly natural to lands such as Ethiopia who similarly have a deep Christian history.

Fourth - The Church has not destroyed Africa you imbecile. Multinationals have. Those swine who rape Africans of their natural resources; Blood Oil, Diamonds, Gold, Silver, you name it. It is charlatans like you who are compounding the plight of Africa by purchasing products made from these resources.
At this stage I want to make sure no one's forgetting the African slave trade. Sanctioned and promoted by the Church, thanks to that wonderful text the bible. Many generations of men and women in their prime were stolen, imprisoned, beaten, tortured, murdered and enslaved for 400 years. Thanks Churchies!

Oh yes, because I'm sure no Catholics buy those products as well. What a ridiculous point. So every time you buy petrol, do you ask the guy behind the counter where the oil's from? Or when someone in your family slips on some jewellery, do you condemn them for aiding the destruction of Africa?

Fifth - I would like credibly evidence which substantiates your assertion that Christian churches engaged in genocides whilst in the process of proselytising the local population as you have charged. I don't want to hear about the Crusades as they aren't relevant to the charge you have put forward.
Within months of Columbus' establishment of the Spanish colony in Espanola, 55,000 natives were killed. By the end of the genocide in the Caribbean, the number of dead was significantly higher than that of the Holocaust of the 20th century, for example. Within two years of Cortes' arrival at Tenochtitlan, all 350,000 residents were dead. Before the Spanish came, there 25,000,000 residents in Central America, 75 years later there 1 million. In Honduras 95% of the people were exterminated in 50 years. Nicaragua's population of 1 million decreased to 10,000 in 60 years. The areas now known as Peru and Chile contained 14 million, when the Spanish were done it was 100,000. And that pattern of Catholic European colonisation can be seen all around South America and Africa.

Between 60 and 80 million people South Americans were slaughtered even before the 17th century. That enough evidence for you?

Six - Problems in South America aren't religious you stupid cretin. Our friend Jose' in Honduras doesn't run drugs because Christ has instructed thus. It is because vile idiots like you who succumb to their carnal obsessions solicit the services of Jose' and provide a demand for drugs. If there was no demand from people like you in LA and other liberal areas of America, there would be significantly less problems in South America. Don't blame the Catholic Church mate.
Before the arrival of the Europeans, South America was a thriving network of advanced, wealthy cities and societies. Since the arrival of colonisation it's been a hotbed of conflict, crime and death. No two ways about it.

And I didn't realise I did drugs? But okay.

Finally, friend, I have no obligation to be 'nice' to you. It's my duty as a Christian to defend my Catholic brothers against a tirade of lies and propaganda. This takes precedence over what you have requested in your disingenuous and licentious tone.
Well, I suppose I expect you to be a bit choosy with the Bible. You support aspects that suit your purposes, but conveniently ignore the ability you have to sell your daughter for slavery, or even to be nice to others.
