I find him contemptible. Not only a moral vacuum but also a man that his whole career profited from more talented colleagues, gargantuan blunders from rivals and an historic event that nobody anticipated himself included. I am not anti liberal, there are liberals from both flanks of the party I have great respect for. But I have none for John Howard.

I always found him to be one of the least friendly and least open members of parliament. He was entirely sheltered from the community and the manner and scope by which he lost the 2007 election was evidence of that. Nothing he did ever pleased me policy wise. Any decision he made seemed, to be, abhorrent.

I'd actually feel happy if he were to die.

How can you possibly call yourself a libertarian and support him? Not since the days of the protectionist party did a federal government so encroach upon the rights of the Australian people. Forget not his performance as treasurer in your assessment of the man.

Well he's the anti Howard really. Supremely talented and down to earth bloke whom has dedicated most of his public life to helping first Paul Keating to remain prime minister then Kim Beazley to almost become prime minister. Only now with Beazley well and truly gone has he embarked upon any real self advancement and since entering the ministry unlike Rudd, Gillard and Swan has really not had a serious charge leveled against him. In short he is beyond reproach.

Loathed him. Couldn't stand the man.

But no one says it better than Paul Keating:

"The little desiccated coconut is under pressure and he is attacking anything he can get his hands on"

"For Mr Howard to get to the high moral ground, he would first need to climb out of the volcanic hole he had dug for himself over the last decade. It is like one of those diamond mine holes in South Africa. They are about a mile underground. He would have to come a mile up to get to even equilibrium let alone have any contest in morality with Kevin Rudd."

loved him.
Did a pretty good job in the scheme of things really. Kept taxes, unemployment and interest rates (well untill the end) under control.

Better than that smug dumb fuck Rudd.
