Ok, right now I'm tossing up between 2 courses. I got an ATAR of 81.15. The 2 courses I am choosing between are:

Science (Forensic) at UWS. The cutoff, however, is 86.25 which is obviously quite a bit higher than I achieved.. Another thing, I didn't do any science courses in high school so I might be behind the rest of the class from the start.

Aviation (Management) at UNSW, the cutoff is 78.00 so I should get into that course. I also get 1 bonus point for my band 5 in English.

Anyway, as of now I have the Forensics course as my 1st option.. Lets say I leave it as it is, I get accepted into Forensics (I don't think I will but it's worth a shot).. And then I change my mind. Is there any way I can change my mind and go with Aviation instead?

Cliffnotes: If I'm accepted into my 1st preference and I decide I would rather do my 2nd preference.. Can I? Or is it too late?

why do you want to do forensics if you didn't do any sciences at school, assuming the reason being you don't like science?

To be honest I regret not doing any sciences.. Mistake on my part.
Just read about the course and thought it seemed interesting and hopefully I'd pick up what I needed in the bridging courses

i don't know, no offense, but that kind of reasoning seems somewhat superficial. it sounds as if in a couple of weeks you might change your mind

I was thinking about doing biological forensics, but i know that chemistry plays a large part in it and I only did one science - biology - in year 12 (which i really loved). But if were to do that course, i would be quite behind everyone else, but if you are willing to do a chemistry bridging course (i think they cost around $300) and you know for certain you would like a career in the science industry then go for it. But from the subjects you chose, it seems that you would suit the faculty of arts more. Up to u....

If you change your mind, change your preferences after the main round. Then hope there are vacancies in the course for the late rounds. You should accept your first offer no matter what. Then if you get another offer in the late round, you choose to accept the new one, or reject it.

OP, i am currently a 2nd year aviation student.

the first year of uni that you do for this degree contains large amounts of maths, physics and engineering. the management/economics part of the degree doesnt really kick in until 2nd year.

also the aviation industry is still in a complete downturn due to the GFC and thus employment oppurtunities are very minimal atm.

one last thing this degree is highly competetive, serious and is specialised for but only a handfull of careers.

Please think carefully so as to not decide on a whim.

Do you live in Sydney? If you do, then you're almost certainly eligible for UWS's 5 bonus points for 'greater western sydney' applicants. This happens automatically, and their definition of GWS is practically all of Sydney. Check this site to see if you're eligible.
UWS: Regional Bonus

Also, bridging courses aren't always necessary as you can do intro courses which basically start from scratch (you will have to work very hard in them though) which are usually xxx101 (ie BIOL101, PHYS101 etc)

So put forensic science down as your first preference if that's what you really want to do, if you aren't eligible (which you should be with the 5 bonus points) then they just won't consider it

i had a friend who did all the sciences in high school and then did forensic science and worked for a year as a forensic scientist and absolutely hated it. she said it was all lab work, very little field work and the field work she did do was either very gruesome (rarely), or incredibly detailed and technical and even then mostly done in the lab.
now she teaches science at high school.

Hey i'm not sure about NSW but you can in Victoria. For example in Victoria, say if you are accepted in your first preference but you changed your mind and want your third preference. You go for a 'irregular offer'', where you go ask the university of your third preference for a spot. However you need to meet the ATAR requirements and what not.
