They can be. We have Prob bake crossaints.

Ok cool (re: meat specialist)
Yes. But that's beside the point. The croissants she was talking about are the ones which have to be cooked. Thus, they are classed as instore.

So are you currently doing the Coles graduate program? how's it going?

I have a friend doing the coles one and would say that you have been brain-washed to think that Coles is so much better than Woolworths.

But fair enough you can't like both companies at the same time!
I wouldn't say I've been brainwashed. I just have a deep resentment of Woolworths for rejecting me without any reason being given.

Woolworths does a lot of things better than Coles, and most of the other procedures are pretty much identical. It's why the market share is 42-32 atm. But I have to present a positive face for Coles while I am working there!

Eh, to a customer, woolies and coles are pretty much the same (pretty much same service, same prices, same products etc) and to the workers its probably extremely identical, unless u work in the high end of the management. to say that one is greatly better than the other is ignorant.

Coles and woolies are probably laughing at customers/workers taking sides while they enjoy the nice little monopoly (well, kind of a monopoly) they have going on.

it's called a duopoly. Just to make things correct: Greekgun

I think there is a specialist for each fresh food department. The area manager I suppose is the 'specialist' for longlife & perishables since:
1/ Products in longlife and perishables are sourced from one location per product, with fresh food, there are a variety of places that things can be sourced from.
2/ Presentation: You gotta face longlife and perishables, and that is about all, along with following planograms
with fresh food depts, there are different facings for freshness etc. and quality checks, you can't quality check a box of ricebubbles now, can you?

SSS is a little different... you gotta learn to face your safe.. I mean... well, you know what an SSS does :p

What about food safety? in perish we do temp checks and weights and measures, l/life do weights and measures also. but yes i do know what you were getting at fresh food quality is harder to maintain and a lot stricter and stock is harder to source, thus the need for specialists.

I wouldn't say it was harder from what I have heard, I would say WoW HR are just incompetent. In fact I assume it was a HR error that they rejected me early because they practically begged me to stay for the resulting nine months, guaranteeing me a job in this or that. But when push came to shove they couldn't even table an offer.

If you want to do a grad program, I would seriously not choose WoW. They are a market leader who will be under immense pressure in two years (where can they go from here? Only down) and I just don't rate their culture. But I am slightly biased towards Coles these days given the way WoW treated me.
Corporate HR are the ones that do the grad program, totally different to area management who I found to be totally unhelpful when working in stores.Grad positions are HIGHLY competitive. All the grads started yesterday for this year.(yesterday was first day so site/grad induction). today was their first day actually working.

I'll give you an example of the quality of candidates. One of the grads are with us on a buying team, she just completed a double degree majoring in HR and commerce. she was working perm part time with one of our businesses and is under 26y/o. First impressions are impressive particularly with her sitting very close and watching her look at paperwork and the questions asked.

I can't speak for your treatment from WOW, but i again express how competitive it is out there.

Very true. Being an ex-systems operator I'd be disgusted when the supplier would downsize but Woolworths pricing wouldn't. But then that's how you become a big ass company....who doesn't pay overtime.:mad1:
So as a system operator you know that you cant see cost price of the product ;) suppliers reduce the size of the product instead of increasing the cost price. I don't want to be rude but its not fair to the supplier or woolworths to make a statement like that without knowing the real situation. I deal with pricing everyday of the week.

Ever noticed .2 or even several % less alcohol in your premix drinks of late ? thats not WOW doing this. its the suppliers lowering the content instead of the cost of the stock.

If you could really see what the increase on costs have been compared to our price increases you would be VERY suprised.

P.S. My comments are my own, not of WOW and I am very pro customer!

Also

I took a screenshot of the desktop of one of our workstations earlier, does this look like the ones over there?
<NZ desktop>
I decided to take a screenshot a week back, and only just got around to scanning it :p

On another note, my pending unemplyment is putting my mind at ease; I'm virtually stress free at work now!!

2 more shifts to go!

It's the imageshack thumbnail, kinda hard to compare when it's 1/8th the size lol. Though why do you blur the system information? Aren't all the Woolworths computers running off the intranet and completely shut off from the outside world?

You can click on it to enlarge :p

I thought much the same thing, but then noticed lordtopcat did it, then a little dude inside my head said "OMG, the random numbers are a unique identifier for that workstation, and since I was doing the screens before I did that, they could call up the logs and get me fired!!!" Pretty redundant since I'm leaving, but it wasn't much effort to do it; far more effort was expended in explaining it, really.

And no, they are not restricted to the intranet; you can access the internet via the workstations.

Previously (prolly before last release) you could go into 'My Computer', type a URL in the address bar and it would let you on the net. Now, they have implemented 'white lists' where only certain sites are accessible; totalimagegroup.com.au being one - pity its as slow as a wet week!

I'd imagine quality checks would apply to perishables too, though, but pretty much agree with all this :p

Ah I went to look for the "Like" button, but goldmambo rep will have to suffice. Damn facebook infiltrating my brain!

In other news, guys, I'm screwed :( Woolies has killed my sleep-wake pattern, and I am not falling asleep at 5.30 or 6 pm, and waking up at 2 am, wide awake etc.

Why are you leaving copeys? :(

Also: Pyrotek wherever you are my skype was set to Do Not Disturb at 2 am, thus whilst I was awake it didn't tell me that you were talking to me!

Also I did not get the Coles job (didn't expect that I would, lol) thus life as always with Woolies!!
