i never got massively into the whole pop/boy band thing, like nsync etc .. loved all kinds of random shit

the first two bands i ever really loved were no doubt and hanson, and they're still two of my favourite bands over a decade later (or 15 years in the case of no doubt, sup tragic kingdom)

As per everyone else I liked the boy bands. Not like there was a lot else on the radio. So it was pop pop pop all the way.

Then Linkin Park came in and I started listening to harder stuff.

Now I'm mainly into the 60s, 70s though.

Killing Heidi (everytime Mascara was on the radio my mum used to turn the volume down when Ella swore, haha), Jamiroquai, Savage Garden, Green Day (we had to sing Good Riddance for a school concert item in year one, heh), Nirvana, Blink 182, Incubus, Matchbox Twenty and *Nsync.
Oh and I guess Van Morrison and Crowded House can be included too because I started listening to Van when I was in year five and Crowded House have always been a favourite in my household.
And Blow Up the Pokies by the Whitlams.
I have a whole heap of burnt CDs somewhere with the random music I used to listen to. I just can't seem to find them.
I think the first album I ever bought with my own money was either Present by Killing Heidi or More Than You Think You Are by Matchbox Twenty. Before that all I had was a load of burnt CDs and singles.
LOVED Killing Heidi :)

And Blow Up the Pokies is amazing, I love that song. Plus No Aphrodisiac, always sing along to those two songs :)

edit: still love all this music, lol

Gosh, the 90s were the year for boy groups. I didn't find out that a member of Nsync was gay until about a month ago (yesh, I'm very slow).

Oh, and can No Doubt be included here? I certainly hope so :guitar:

I started life listening to classical music mostly (as in the generic style not the period)... lots of Mahler, Grieg...

The first album I bought was Backstreet Boys, Backstreets back...

Upon discovering my purchase, my father went out and bought a new record player... made me listen to U2's the Joshua Tree, Pink Floyd's the Wall and Dark side of the Moon, The Police - Ghost in the Machine and Jimi Hendrix (can't remember which)

Needless to say I maintained reasonably decent music tastes after that... granted the Pokemon Sountrack wasn't such a good choice (but I still think that the theme song is worth busting out now and then) but even Savage Garden's self titled is not a bad pop album at all.

But the majority of my childhood was spent listening to:

Pink Floyd
U2
Led Zeppelin
Metallica
The Smiths
Bob Dylan
Fleetwood Mac

as I got older It expanded...

Linkin Park
Something for Kate
Daft Punk
Dream Theater

Then someone gave me Opeth's "Blackwater Park" and my brain basically exploded...

When I was 10:

I thought this song was so naughty because they sang "you washed me in the shower, it lasted for an hour".

I think I only started getting into Garbage at 12.

Also, I loved Madonna's Ray of Light so much in 1998.

I had a lot of this as well. Dad was always playing 60's to 80's rock. The stuff I go out and listen to myself now. :)
