lol fobby engrish ;)
An addition reaction, in organic chemistry, is in its simplest terms an organic reaction where two or more molecules combine to form a larger one
e.g. Ethene + Bromine > 1,2 dibromoethane
In a substitution reaction, a functional group in a particular chemical compound is replaced by another group
e.g. i am not sure, someone help me out - common example please

which year's independent trial examination are you referring to?
2008 the question is as follows:
a reatcion between a particular hydrocarbon and bromine produces the following.
CH3CHBrCHBrCH3
which of the following hydrocarbons was reacted with bromnie to produce this product?
(a) 1-propene
(b) Butane
(c) 2-butene
(d) propane

i think that both B and C are correct

N/A
Q1 of MC. 2008 Independent Trial.

The answer is definitely (c), although i understand where you get the idea it could be (b). Since the instructions state to "Select the alternative A, B C or D that bet answers the question", (c) is the best answer. Choosing (b) implies a substitution reaction occurs, so H2(g) would also be a product - however this is not mentioned in the question. Further, addition reactions happen more spontaneously than substitution reactions, reaffirming (c) as the best option.
